Let’s Speak Finnish! - A suggestopedic course in Finnish language and culture for immigrants is formed of four Beginner level and four Intermediate level parts. On successfully completing all parts, students will have mastered the necessary skills to navigate in professional and everyday life situations in Finnish, with a target proficiency level of B1.2.
Contact teaching
Each Beginner and Intermediate level part consists of 42 hours of contact lessons and 42 hours of independent study. Contact lessons take place twice a week in 3 x 45 min blocks (15 min coffee break).
The Beginner modules are 389 € per module (incl. VAT 24%).
On-line course
Course consists of 42 hours of contact lessons on-line and 42-60 hours of independent study including all study material.
Course price: 300 € (incl. VAT 24%) The course is held completely online. The teacher will contact the participants by email prior to the beginning of the course, so please make sure to give your valid email address when you register. To participate you need a computer with an internet connection, a camera and a headset, and basic computer skills.
Beginner Level Module 1

During the first module, you will learn how to introduce yourself to new acquaintances.

You will discuss different housing types and their characteristics, and explore the Finnish way of living through The Housing Fair.

You will take a look at the typical everyday routine in Finland, and discuss your own daily schedule.

You will learn to ask for and give directions.

You will get to know some Finnish cities.

Grammar topics covered include interrogatives; the present tense (the positive and negative); verb types; locational cases (where?, to where?, from where?); consonant gradation; verb rections; the necessive clause (I must, I have to, I need to); pre- and postpositions; the object 1; the conditional; telling time; numerals
Beginner Level Module 2

Module 2 gives you a chance to learn and talk about hobbies and popular Finnish pastimes.

You will get a chance to experience the Finnish cottage culture first-hand.

You will pick up the basics of the Finnish Small Talk: discussing weather, family and common interests.

You will get to know vocabulary and expressions you will need when visiting a restaurant.

Grammar topics covered include interactive revision of topics covered in Module 1; the past tense (the positive and negative); the possessive suffix; months and dates (ordinal numbers); verb rections; the use of action nouns; the 3rd infinitive; the imperative; the comparative and superlative forms of adjectives; the partitive plural; the passive present and past tense
Beginner Level Module 3

In Module 3, you will discuss the Finnish education system and explore the study opportunities available to you.

You will take a look at your study strategies and get tips on how to boost your learning potential.

You will learn about visiting a post office and a bank, as well as using various online services in Finnish.

You will learn vocabulary and expressions needed for booking and staying in a hotel.

You will familiarize yourself with the Finnish phone etiquette and learn to make reservations and appointments by phone.

Grammar topics covered include interactive revision of topics covered in Modules 1 & 2; the object; the 1st infinitive (the long form); demonstrative pronouns; verb rections; the necessive clause (on + -tava); the comparative and superlative forms of adverbs.
Beginner Level Module 4

You will familiarize yourself with Finnish celebrations and public holidays, and talk about the weird and wonderful traditions.

You will take a look at the Finnish healthcare system and learn how to communicate on a visit to a doctor or a dentist.

You will get to know about the Finnish working culture and learn useful vocabulary for work life.

You will explore Tampere’s history and attractions.

Intermediate Level Module 1

You will take a look at the business industries in Finland, discussing different professions and their characteristics.
