SUGGESTOPEDIA ACCELERATES LEARNING
Teaching in Onnenkieli is based on the suggestopedic method of activation developed in Bulgaria in the late 1960’s. Cosy atmosphere in the classrooms encourage learning and Finnish is used actively starting from the first lesson. Grammar is learned through different plays with language, for example by playing grammar domino that faciliates the perceiving of the language. Speaking and having conversations take up most of the time in the lessons. Independent studying at home intensifies the language skills learned at the lessons.
Interaction is the key to learning in suggestopedia. Both teaching and learning are designed functionalistically in order to give the students the means to cope both orally and literally in different situations of interaction. During the course the skills of speaking, oral comprehension, writing and comprehending written texts are developed logically. Tools, in other words vocabulary and grammar, are needed in order to develop different parts of language. However, the aim in suggestopedia is not to learn separate pieces of grammar but to learn how to apply grammar in the situations of interaction.
